Hello fellow Stamp masters,

is the following #63 Franklin 1c Stamp a collectable stamp judging by its condition?
Up to what price would you bid for it?
Or is it more of a space filler in its condition and not worth my time?

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Thanks!

Yes, it's collectible. Unfortunately, the image is distorted by the camera lens. A corrected camera image or a scan using a flat bed scanner is highly recommended. Otherwise anyone looking at this will assume the worst and take it to be reperfed, at minimum.

@hy-brasil
Thanks for the input!
What would be the purpose of reperforation? Are Imperfs not more valuable? Or is there a perf variety of this stamp that is rarer than the imperf?

Stamps are reperforated to improve their centering or to remove a natural straightedge. They can also be reperforated to make a more valuable perf variety but this stamp issue only has one perforation type.

Not sure but I know a US 63 is a 1¢ stamp and the first image is of a stamp (Germany?) in Groschen which certainly isn't US currency. I think the OP needs to learn about creating new image names.

First image on my screen is a 63. I don't see any of the text you mention. Not sure what gives!

Hi stallzer,
Please try forcing your browser to refresh (F5). The OP uploaded the same file name and it has overwritten the file, so it shows the wrong stamp.

The second image duplicates the name of the Groschen stamp pair in a different thread. So stallzer and others are probably seeing that, presented by a confused system. Don't use an image name given by the camera/scanner(?).

This has now been reported to Bobby and the admins. Be patient.

EDIT: This has been fixed while I was composing this post. Don to the rescue! Back to the original thread...

Sorry, I Uploaded on a fly and did not read those instructions because I assumed Web technology from the late 90s/early00s has been left behind in the 90s/00s. Im a software developer and from my perspective this site is BADLY IN NEED of an overhaul, ESPECIALLY the photo Upload part.

Suggestion to the Webadmins: Dont create filenames based on date but on timestamp. This is much more precise.

Perhaps you will follow up with your recommendation with a donation? Or you just going to 'take' while being critical of a free resource manned by volunteers?

Suggestion to LordInVader: Use unique filenames for images, etc.: standard practice. This was posted in this thread for you and appears in the instructions for uploading. Don't act like a typical IT person and complain about what exists and not pay attention to instructions provided. Would it not be a problem if others were allowed to call themselves LordInVader and use the same avatar?

Centering of the stamp design is not a major concern for German collectors. It is extremely important for US stamps, and this is not well-centered. It still has value. The last image name shows it's already on ebay, so you have limited the bidders for this by having a distorted image. They will suspect hidden problems and bid accordingly.

Lordinvader, did you buy it then on ebay, and how much was it at the end?

I see this 1c 1861 very often on ebay Germany selling for quite much, never below 10 USD, even if it's extremely damaged, often between 20 and 30 USD (also not sound and well centered). Has to be because of the Z grill story. I think in the US there it's not as popular to buy this stamp as in Europe?

@51studebaker It was meant as a constructive criticism, not a complaint. I did offer a very specific solution which would immediately solve this problem and make the website better. Consider that your donation.

@hy-brasil Im not acting like a typical IT person, IAM an IT person. What I did was to offer a constructive criticism WITH a very specific programming solution that would make this site better. Why should something that can be improved not be called out? Of course I can follow the instructions, but if I see that something can be improved which would make the instructions unnecessary and save people time, of course I will do so. And why do you insinuate that I'm limiting buyers in any way by assuming that im selling the stamp? This stamp is not mine, im not the one selling it. Dont assume things you do not know and speak of them as if you knew...
