Hello to all Stamp masters,

what is your opinion on this 8c piece? has it been cancelled?
I suspect yes because of the tiny smudge on the front and the "shadow" of a seeming cancel on the rear.

What is your opinion?

And also: The faint smudge in the "U" of "U.S."

Also: I just noticed that the ink seems to bleed in two spots into the upper right part of the "8".
Would that be an error?

When are you going to take shots / scans with a black background ?
The stamp seems to be over-inked and the "smudge" looks to be a paper incursion - besides an awful thin in that area ?

Peter

Sometimes traces of a removed cancel can be seen with longwave UV.

@Petert4522
Stamps that are in my possession I usually scan. These I found online and wanted to hear an opinion from.

Doubt anyone would go through the trouble to remove a cancel on this one. It just looks like a roughly-handled mint stamp with a paper inclusion to me.

I think the spots around the lower left corner 8 - below the 8 and to the upper right of it - look like possible light cancel marks. Would want to see in person to be sure. Or maybe a very hi-res scan of that area...

You might want to contact the seller and ask if the stamp has original gum?
