I wonder what the odds are that Gross himself bought it back.

It sure sounded like he didn't want it out of the family.

That price is quite a discount to estimates. Wonder what, if anything, it means for the market price for Gross' 164

That wasn't an estimate, it was the current catalog value. So it brought 70% of cat before the tip.

RevCollector - I know Scott's pricing is an example of the dark arts, but do you know if they're estimates are based on the winning bid or the winning bid PLUS auction house fee?

It looks to me like it sold at about the price the stamps would have sold for as singles - not much if any premium for the block. Recent sales for stamps a bit off center have been in the 2-300K range. Better centered vary a lot, but say 500K each - would add up to about what this sold for.
