Just glancing through the latest issue of London Philatelist, I noticed an advert from Spink that a block of 4 Inverted Jenny (positions 45-46, 55-56) is going to be put up for sale on 27th September in NY. To quote: Offered at a modest opening bid of $1,000,000.00; estimate $2M-$3M"

Now where did I put my wallet...?

Reminds me of how I found the Isley Brothers "Lay Away" utterly unintelligible decades ago ...

Sounds a little high for not being a plate block.

This is the inverted Jenny block of four in my collection. Didn't cost me anyway near a million bucks.

Apparently there is a single Inverted Jenny as well in this sale, so if you can't afford the block you can still buy bragging rights. Don't know what the reserve will be.

I came across this article from the New York Post:

"California financier Bill Gross is scrambling to thwart youngest child Nick's auction of five 1918 "Inverted Jenny'' postage stamps, which could fetch up to $3.4 million if they hit the block as scheduled Friday, sources told The Post."

Wow, what a family philatelic feud to go along with the auction...

He's probably cramming haddock into Spink's air-comditioning as we speak ...

five of the six known four-stamp blocks of Jennys

I had no idea that he had owned this many of the blocks.

I wonder if he will buy this one back, as his son suggested.

This forgery should get close to the estimate at least.
