Hi, can anyone give me any feedback on this Benjamin Franklin one cent stamp? I have done these measurements of the stamp design. Also does anyone know what the perfs would need to be if it was indeed the rare variety?

Kind regards,
Dan

First check the perforations with your perforation gauge.

OK good. Now look at and/or scan the back of the stamp and look for setoff (green ink).

So based upon the color, the perforations and the setoff I would say that your stamp is Scott 552. Scott catalog value in used VF condition is 25 cents. Your stamp unfortunately is damaged with paper adhered to the back, poorly centered and perforations blunted. Value is essentially nothing. Keep trying though!

That stamp side pic with the perf guage sure doesn't look to me like it is matching up with perf 11 on that guage.

Well Rhett, if it is 10 1/2 then it would have to be a rotary, Scott 632 and I do not think so with the setoff and the color is not right. Either way the value is nil. Unless you think that it is not 10 1/2? What do you think?

Maybe that is because the gauge is not used properly ?
