Folks here often post useful stampsmarter links. I have trouble navigating the site. Someone posted this link: http://stampsmarter.com/1847usa/189...ntifier.html

I cannot figure out how to get to that page or similar pages without the direct link.

Perhaps there is a problem with the site since nothing happens when I tap on "launch" for many of the links under the 1847usa section of the site. I usually browse on an ipad and don't recall trying on a pc.

Can anyone help?

You can use the link you posted and then just type 1847 in the search box. You will get a list of all the 1847 listings then you can go back and forth until you have exactly what you're looking for. Save (bookmark) the direct links of what you want and you won't have to repeat the search the next time.

Yes, the navigation is difficult sometimes. There is a sitemap now, but it's huge and not everybody finds it (as many people just browse and even don't use the search function). Don chose this menu and tile style because of Google ranking, I think. Actually I even use Google to find things on Stampsmarter from time to time :). So the ranking is nice indeed.

Some time ago I gave a list here with interesting pages on Stampsmarter which should be included in the main page as "popular links" or "best practices" or "main tools" (and maybe in the menu). Stampsmarter has a lot of very useful information, but it's not easy to find it sometimes.

Phil,
I do not have an iPad so I cannot test for this platform when I make changes. The landing page for the 1847 section does have drop down boxes for the buttons with the arrows as seen here

Are these the buttons that are not working for you?

All,
The site has close to 4000 pages, I am open to any suggestions on a more useable navigation solution.

The criteria is that the navigation has to be mobile friendly, in other words it cannot be pages full of text links that users cannot execute with fat finger on a touch screen. The current navigation adheres to mobile friendly specifications which includes dynamic resizing down to a screen which is 300 pixels wide. So any navigation solution has to be useable on a screen size from 300 pixels wide to up 2400 pixels wide.

If anyone has seen other websites which have solved the issue with linking thousands of pages please post a link.

Thanks. The navigation definitely does not work for me on my ipad or iphone. Will try from a couple browsers later today.

The modal that opens up when you select "Launch" comes up fine on a PC browser. It does not open up on my iPad or iPhone using the native iOS browser. I have relatively recent devices with the latest version of iOS. Rogdcam, can you actually open the "launch" modal under "1847-1971 Regular Issues" and choose a series on your iPad? I cannot.

I would prefer smaller tiles (viewing on 23-inch display and make the entire tile clickable.

I have experimented with smaller tiles and will be migrating to this over the next few months.

I also have some mock-ups of the 1847 section removing the drop downs and moving to all tiles. Not sure I will implement this but I am still playing around with it.

I have the same issue - on my iPhone6 IOS 12.4, I click on the 1847USA icon, and go in there. Then I see the various sections, some with normal Launch buttons some with explodeable Launch buttons. The regular launch buttons work fine, but the explodeable ones aren't clickable.

On FireFox with Linux it all works very well.

Maybe my iPhone is just too old...

Stamp Smarter is coded to in accordance to HTML5 (which was released in October 2014). It could be that HTML5 is not running on the older Safari browser (I think html5 is not enabled by default).

To enable html5 in Safari …
Access the Develop menu in Safari by navigating to the Safari menu bar, click Safari > Preferences, and choose the Advanced tab. Check the box to enable the Develop menu. Click on the new Develop menu in the Safari menu bar and select User Agent > Mobile Safari 3.2.2 - iPad

Here is a navigation demo with smaller tiles http://stampsmarter.com/features/Ho...uresnew.html

Six across for large displays, drops to 4 across foe medium displays, drops to 1 across for small displays. (You can emulate this by resizing your browser to see how the page dynamically changes.)
