Stamp In Bad Condition

Is a stamp in this condition still valuable?

It isn't even valuable in good condition. Its only interest may be as a space-filler for someone working on a 1d red plate collection.

So you are saying that this issue's worth is nothing!? I though they worth from 10$-15$ to even hundreds of $ if they are in good condition, well centered and with particular cancellations. I'm not saying that they are like the 1856 British Guiana 1¢ in terms of value...

I didn't say that imperf 1d reds were worth nothing, but they're common stamps, four-margin examples of which are readily available for low prices on ebay. "Valuable" to me means rather more than $10-15.

It's not easy to tell from your scan, but it looks like you have a significant chunk missing from the bottom right corner. That pretty much puts your example into the space filler category. It does have a rather nice strike of the Maltese cross cancel in black, which dates it between 1841 and 1844 most likely. Unless that cancel is one of the rare ones Geoff is correct.

The stamp is totally ruined by the large missing part on the lower right corner. There is absolutely no value in the stamp. ebay is not a good reference to explain how much a stamp is worth to say the least. The only proper way is to take the stamp to a dealer, or to send a scan to a dealer.

Even if your stamp is in good condition, well centred (which yours isn't on both counts) it will amount to nothing if it has a large missing part to the stamp.

And for the particular cancellation, the red Maltese cancellation is scarce not the black, and even if you had the red Maltese cancellation, again the large missing part to the stamp destroyed the stamp.

And the links you supplied, although the prices are too high for both stamps, unlike yours both stamps are very much intact.

Unless there are other clues showing on that stamp, I think plating it would need a lot of work if at all possible.

Yes, sorry. Maybe I used the wrong word saying "valuable". I meant with that word if it was possible to give a value to a stamp in that condition: a high value or low value it doesn't matter.

I scan this stamp, the "One Penny Red", but it was just an example of a classic stamp in this "not so good" conditions: my question was in general.

Very rare stamps with chunks missing can still have a certain value.More so on cover.Common stamps
are almost = to 0. As space fillers.

If that was a very very rare stamp in that condition, it would still be worth money..Check out the "" British Guiana One-Cent Magenta"" below that had all 4 corners trimmed off and still is the most expensive stamp known.

In general, any stamp in that condition is worthless; the British Guiana One-Cent Magenta is an exceptional stamp and is worth millions in it's current condition, yet, if that stamp had a large piece out of it, the value of the stamp would have dropped by the millions.
