Looks like maybe the gum had sweated into the stamp paper before it was applied to the envelope.

Also, there appears to be gum on the surface of the stamp.

Thanks for the info.. I looked at this closely and it doesn't seem to have any gum on the surface.. anyway is this an error or nothing at all..Thanks

This is not an error, and the gum soak would be considered a fault. It is something that could happen to a lot of older stamps with water-activated/water soluble gum when badly stored.

Thanks Brasil I understand now.. I think I got this from an old photo album that had a plastic sheet that covered the whole page.. plus it was in a basement..
