Recently acquired this stamp. It was labeled as a #344 Mailometer type II, but on examination it is a single line watermark #384 with Mailometer type V perfs. In fairness to the original finder, type V was not recognized until about a dozen years ago. Belasco highlighted it in articles in the The United States Specialist and subsequently in his book Guide To United States Vending And Affixing Machine Perfortions 1907-1927 Prior to that they were lumped together with type IIs despite many differences.

It was finally added to the Scott Specialized Catalog 2/3 years ago. Can someone with the latest issue check and see if they have assigned a catalog value yet ?

2019 Scott Specialized has it listed. 384, Type V perforation. Only priced as a used single on cover at $3000. Unpriced for unused pair, strip of 4 or single with perforated control mark.

Thank You. That is what I saw in a prior issue. There are only 5 known on cover, all postmarked from Detroit. The dates of usage are between 5/20/1911 and 6/1/1911.

I have a used single with a Cincinnati, Ohio CDS dated 5/24/1911 and one on cover with a perforated control mark from Chalmers Motor Company, Detroit, dated 5/22/1911.

One used single with perforated control mark went through an auction and sold for around $1100 including premium. I'm surprised Scott didn't pick up on that and assign a value.

I'm considering listing this single on ebay and am not sure where to start it.

Since it is this rare I would consider having it certified

I don't know that the stamp is that rare. Scott lists the #384 MOM II used single at an italicized $65. Given an opportunity to examine those, I would bet the majority are actually type V. The same is probably true for #383.

The listed unused pairs of type II are in all probability actually type II that were purchased as 'request items"
