One Cent 1847 First Day Cover?

In your opinion, is this envelope presenting the first American stamp dated 1 July 1847? .
If it were a fdc what value could it have?

your cover is called a mourning cover because of the black border edges. it has been annotated and has a history that can be traced. this will need a more knowledgeable collector than me to help you accomplish. as to its first day issue status there is nothing to date it by if the contents are gone. if the plum color indication is correct then it cannot be, as I think that color came late in its life. you might check out Richard Frajola's site

Your cover is ID #21493 (use the advanced search button to search on the id number).
Your cover is highly unlikely to be a first day cover because the 1847 issue stamps because the Post Office in Hanover New Hampshire did not receive its first shipment of 1847 issue stamps until November 1849.

I agree that there is nothing on it to prove that it was sent on the first day of issue, and as has already been pointed out, it is not even likely a use in the first year of issue.

As for value, a very nice example of a #1 on cover with a PF certificate very recently sold on ebay for #250 which seems about right in my opinion. It is not as nice because of its fold which detracts, but it is nicer in that it is dated which adds value so it is a wash in comparative values in my eyes. That's actually the same price that I sold this cover for back in May to the seller in the present auction. In both cases I think on the cheap side given the "due 5" marking. It's unusual to find partially paid 1847 issue covers.
