I tried googling but couldn't find any explanation of what "Estacion de Invierno" is -- a place? building? post office? Or is it just a slogan to promote winter tourism in Malaga?

Just a guess.
Could it be postmark used at a train station which is only opened in winter to accomodate those that want to go skiing? |

I'm afraid there's not much skying in Mālaga (a very warm place in Southern Spain),unless you talk about wāter sky. Mālaga, is where the Costa del Sol (known to many Europeans and Arabs) lies.
So, as the Spanish word "estaciķn" means not just train station, but also season, it can be an early slogan postmark to encourage people to go wintering on the Mālaga coast. |

There is a street named Calle Invierno in the locale named Velez-Malaga in the province named Malaga.
Velez-Malaga is about 10 miles east of the city Malaga. |

Well, not so fabulous. The "Catalogo de matasellos de Espaņa" was a "cut and paste" publication by the Spanish Federation of Philateic Societies FESOFI some years ago but with a minimum research behind and it is full of mistakes. The ilustration of the Malaga pm actualy comes from the "Catalogo de matasellos y marcas especiales de Espaņa" first published by José Maria Gomis Seguí in 1950 with succesive printings up to 1981. The question put by EdziuMM, shows a 1931 Spanish Republic stamps (Edifil 659) clearly cancelled on April 1933, 6.5 years before the image shown on both catalogs. Using that stamp in late 1939 in Malaga, could have been very dangerous.
So, in my view is clearly a early sample of Spanish commemorative pm, like a "slogan pm", used for many years; perhaps due to the exceptional political circumstances (1936/39 civil war). Anyway, I'm not an expert on Spanish postmarks. |
