This Is For Information About The G Stamp

Hello from Trench Town;


I have noticed that I have recieved a few- three- G stamps in the mail recently. One came from a Veterans non-profit organization. And, I was very interested to find and read the inclosed site;

This fine article leaves me with more questions. It seems to suggest that the use of the G stamp has been rare, or anyway unusual. Is this or has this been accurate? Is it being used more now? Does the USPS really have a huge backstock of these G stamps and can one order them for collecting purposes if one is not a non-profit? What is this thing about the green background?

The non-profit green background G stamp is difficult to find in used condition and/or on cover from the correct time period (late 90s) but I would not use the word RARE. I always look for them in on paper stamps that I sort through. Seldom find one. The different background colors were used for different services and thus different postage amounts. White - (First Class) US addresses only, Yellow - Postcard rate, Blue - First class presort, Green - Non Profit These services were also printed on the stamps. Other than that, there is nothing special about the green color.

The PO has not had them for sale for decades.

An FYI: Usually when issues are taken off sale or in the case of past 'alpha' issues, when the appropriate denomination is widely available, stocks of the interim stamp issues are recalled & sent to stamp destruction centers. So I doubt that the USPS has any stockpiles. (now an unknown 'hoard' at a small local PO would not be out of the question but given the limited use I doubt there are any around except with dealers)
