Bought Stamp Collection Today And Found A Shermack!

I bought a book full of back of the book and early 19th century stamps. It arrived today and scanning through initially and I found this beauty!

Hi chasa, I haven't done any research of Shermack stamps prior to finding this one. Would you happen to know a website that is a good reference? Thanks

Some offsets are common and some are not. In this case there appear to be two possibilities, but the cancel makes it difficult to be sure of which type it is. Of course one is decent and one is common.

A better scan is needed, but it looks like a type Va Scott 534. It catalogs $2.50 used on page 610 of the 2020 Scott Specialized Catalog of United States Stamps and Covers. A detailed scan of the nose is needed to verify the two missing nose dots. A light cancel obfuscates the area, but I don't see the two dots that would make the stamp a type V Scott 533 that catalogs $50.

It's the common 534, with a New York double oval Hudson Terminal cancel and worth a couple bucks. 90% plus have a simple machine cancel with only the wavy or straight lines visible. Most collectors find the heavy cancels undesirable.

I find that 5 to 8% interesting and collect them. I'd be interested if you want to sell it.
