often we see toned paper on stamps which is not a good thing to collect. But there are those GB KGV stamps which are on toned paper and have this as own listing in the catalogue.
So is there any hint to check if it's the "good" toned paper in the GB KGV stamps, not the "bad" one?
Realistically, the only good way to see the difference is comparison with fresh mint stamps of the different types. Used stamps are susceptible to more secondary factors which can tone paper.
If indeed "toned" means paper that is off-white, it's something that I always have a very difficult time discerning, since few of my copies are mint. For used stamps of this age, it seems to me hopeless.
Thank you all. I did not find any information about it except that it's difficult even for the certification organizations. So were the answers here as well so we have to accept that this paper variety is a bit an enigma. I thought there were some characteristics in addition to the color as there are for the bluish paper in US stamps.
