But the top 10% earn SO MUCH more then the rest, that they wouldn't even notice it in terms of their daily life. In real terms, the bottom 50% feel it a GREAT deal more. And Whatever other taxes they choose to lower, finding ways to not pay school taxes hurts everyone in the nation, today and in the future. Better education helps EVERYONE, whether they have children using it or not.

Dan - Thank you for the commentary on the show. It sounds as if by most measures it was a success.

At the risk of going wayyyyyyy off topic...

I agree completely, better education is a noble goal.

Unfortunately, education spending has skyrocketed, while student aptitude and test scores have basically remained the same (or decreased).

Here in ABQ, the school district attempted to slide in a $900M school bond issue into a recent election, even though they had spent over $1M in a study to see what the voters would do and the results were negative. They pressed on anyway and the bond was voted down.

Stop and think about that - mid-sized city (500K or so) looking to create almost a billion dollar spending spree? What about spending $1M just to see if voters would approve a bond?

That is what is disgusting about "education" spending.

Cut out the 20 vice presidents or whatever they have and spend money on kids and let's see some increase in aptitude before your orgy of school spending please!

I know a number of teachers, and they all have to spend out of pocket to make sure students get basic supplies. There is something wrong with that.

At the risk of returning this thread to being on-topic...

I made a brief circuit on the floor, and as always, my first and last shopping stop of any show was with Denny Peoples. He offered to bargain price some items that I had looked at on Day 1 of the show, which I availed myself of. He had just acquired several lovely college stamp covers, that I unfortunately had to pass on, as I was tapped out and they're not within any core collecting focus of mine, just "cool".

I went through his non-revenue "pick & pay" box on a whim, and was pleasantly surprised to find not one, not two, not three, but four WWII-era commercial covers all with half-cent postage dues (J69 and/or J79) affixed, with fractional amounts due. Lovely additions to my half-cent due covers collection... a fitting end to an enjoyable 3-day show.

The drive back was lovely, a bright sunny day with temps stretching into the 50s.

And then reality set in: I get to spend the evening logged into the office catching up on the work I didn't do Thursday or Friday... Joy... bliss... rapture.

Being disabled and tethered to an oxygen line, I really appreciate the tales of what others find so enjoyable at stamp shows.

Revenuecollector, please continue to broadcast your days at the various shows as it allows me the opportunity to voyeuristally enjoy these shows alongside you.

Thank you.
