A New Stamp Collector In Zürich, Switzerland!

Hi all, I have recently fallen in love with the idea of collecting stamps, and would love to get started. At the moment I don't have much, and would like to learn more.

Could someone give me some beginner tips, and possibly some places to collect and/or trade stamps?

Hi Katrina, welcome to the forum. You've joined a friendly and knowledgeable group. One thing you might consider to help get replies started is to say if there are any particular countries or topics that already appeal to you. Monaco perhaps?

You should also try and locate a stamp collecting club near your home.

While the WWW is a great source of information, being able to meet with and talk to collectors one-on-one without the delay in forum responses would allow you to ask questions faster and get immediate answers.

Plus, other collectors can show you in person how they do things, and offer advice.

But you can always return here if you have questions that you can't get answered locally

Welcome Katrina to SCF. You are, actually, on one of the best places to start collecting stamps. Your country produced (and still does)some of the best stamps in the world. The neighbouring countries,Austria, Germany, France... also, issue very nice stamps.
For sure, there must be stamp collector societies in Zurich or nearby.
Here, you can learn a lot. Feel free to ask anything that you might need to know.
A visit to your local library to look for philately handbooks and to borrow a copy of the Michel or Zumstein catalogs, can give you an idea of what to collect. Although, as often happens, you collecting interest may change as time goes by.
If I was you, I would go to visit the wonderful Swiss Post Museum, in Bern. There, you can see, first hand, some of the stamp legends, like the Bassel dove... I was there five years ago, spent a whole afternoon and look forward to visit it again. Perhaps, next year?
