Here is the 50c + 10c value (Sc #B42) from France's two-stamp, semi-postal set benefitting aid to distressed and exiled intellectuals. Stamp shows an allegorical France giving aid.

On December 25, 1958 the USSR issued two 40 kopek stamps publicizing the 1959 Soviet census. One of these stamps (Sc #2156) shows a village census taker writing in her log book.

This 2 1/2 d value (SG #617) of New Zealand is from the 1940 "Centenary of Proclamation of British Sovereignty" set of 13. Stamp depicts the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi.

On May 3, 1971 the Federal Republic of Germany (BRD) issued this 30 pf stamp (Mi #674) to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of Thomas a' Kempis (1379-1471), Augustinian monk and author of The Imitation of Christ.

The serie remembers the 200 years of Albertina museum, in Vienna, Austria.
The stamp shows the drawing 'The Painter and The Connoisseur', circa 1565, probably a self portrait of Pieter Bruegel (1525? - 1569)

Here is the Republic of South Africa's February 24, 1984 set of four stamps (Sc #s 626-9) honoring four South African writers. The first day cancel shows a pen nib dipping into an ink bottle.

This June 30, 1965 2 drachmas value (Sc #825) of Greece is from the three-stamp set commemorating the birth centenary of Eleutherios Venizelos (1864-1936) who was a Prime Minister of the country. Stamp depicts Venizelos signing the Treaty of Sevres.
