Denmark issued this 2.70 kr stamp (Facit #784) on June 10, 1982 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Government Archives.

Native crafts are featured on Singapore's May 2, 1986 set of three stamps issued for Expo '86 World's Fair in Vancouver, Canada. The low value 50c stamp (S.G. #528) depicts calligraphy, or hand lettering.

On May 1, 1986 Singapore issued a set of four designs, printed as a traditional sheet with se-tenant strip of four, 10c stamps to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the National Trade Union Conference. The second stamp from the right (S.G. #525) features a draughtsman.

Chinese brush calligraphy is depicted on the $1.00 value (S.G. #1029) of Singapore's January 1, 2000 New Millennium set of four stamps.

On June 5, 1996 Singapore commemorated the inauguration of the Asian Civilizations Museum with a set of four stamps showing pieces from the Museum's collection. The $2 stamp (S.G. #837) depicts 17th to 19th century calligraphic implements from Persia and Turkey.

Germany issued this stamp (Mi. #2170) on February 8, 2001 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of German poet and translator Johann Heinrich Voss (1751-1826).

Here is Germany's November 8, 2001 stamp (Mi. #2228) commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of theoretical physicist Werner Heisenberg (1901-1976). Heisenberg holding a pen or pencil is shown with the "Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle" formula.

On October 13, 2005 Germany issued this stamp (Mi. #2490) to commemorate the birth bicentenary of Bohemian-born, Austrian writer, poet and painter Aldalbert Stifter (1805-1868). A pen nib over a Stifter manuscript is depicted on the stamp.

Shown on the left is Germany's stamp (water-activated gum) issued on April 27, 1999 for Expo 2000 to be held in Hannover. On the right is the self-adhesive variety, which was issued on April 13, 2000, although the date on this stamp says 1999.

On November 8, 1983 the DDR issued this semi-postal stamp (Mi. #2834) to publicize its solidarity with the Sandinista regime in Nicaragua. Two of the three seated people are shown holding pencils.

Here from Malta is Sc. 999 [Yvert 1088] issued 9 February 2000 among several "Greetings" stamps. This one depicts atop a desk an envelope presumably just addressed with the fountain pen shown.

On October 9, 1996 Finland issued a one-pane booklet of eight different 2.80 mk stamps to commemorate the centenary of the country's printed cartoons. Three of these stamps (Facit #s 1359, 1362, and 1364) depict characters with writing instruments.
