A quill pen is shown on this 1.70 mk 1990, discount Christmas stamp (Facit #1125) of Finland. This reduced rate stamp was intended "for use on Christmas cards mailed between 1st and 14th December, 1990" (Facit). A 2.00 mk Christmas stamp of different design was issued for cards mailed from December 15.  |

Shown below is from 1935 France: Yvert 303/Scott 301 showing Benjamin Delessert holding a quill (tip of which is out of view) and sheet of paper. He's honored here for starting the savings bank movement in France, specifically a cooperative the Caisse d'Epargne which is still in operation. He was a scientist as well, who amassed a 30,000 bolume botany library and who developed industrial scale production of sugar from sugar beets.  |
