India Stamp With Handwritten "X" Over Cancellation

The X can be found on early India stamps also found on telegram forms.This one dates from 1951. ( I am not sure; but a vast majority with these X types are telegrams sent to Pakistan;Karachi; and some abroad………..? )

As you probably know "Hellrigl" refers to the TIBET Pmks Catalogue.

It is always a nice feeling for a collector to have in his possession an old stamp & marking pictured in old philatelic literature.
As far as the sribbles and other pen markings on stamps (and around them) they were done by the sender.A 1 anna stamp,let alone 8 or more annas was a neat little sum for a low paid postal worker.Removing the stamp before it would receive its cancel could of been tempting for some.In the early days many (stamp era)letters were sent un stamped (they say that they forgot) too insure safe delivery. Payment was collected upon arrival(safer).So the practice of marking the stamps directly
became common practice for some (Type b).I think this practice started in northern India (Jammu)and gradualy worked it's way down through India.
So in the case of Telegram forms the "X" was applied in the Telegraph office.
