Quote: covers remain "under-hyped", in the extreme This is very true. For me personally, collecting NSW DLR stamps on cover is cheap, compared to so many other areas of postal history. |

Thank you for the further information about the specialised states collectors and market. Sure there might be also economocal reasons for not making an update, here we probably will not know. But for the situation existing: is the BW specialised for the states for examples used by any expertising company so that the catalog numbers appears instead of SG? From what I heard and saw, SG is still the way to go for the expertizers. As such, many people would think - in addition to the 15 years since the last edition and in addition to that many "rare" entries in BW not being in SG - that the philosophy of the BW (about the watermark orientation and rare perforation) was a bit too specialised or too optimistic about that those varieties could be real varieties instead of (what SG says) normal ways of printing to that time (including federal period). |

From what I heard and saw, SG is still the way to go for the expertizers. I couldn't answer that question, I have not had experience with expertising. Personally however, I would most certainly prefer an Australian expertiser look at my material for appraisal, then whatever reference he/she would attribute, would be acceptable SG or BW. I don't feel any catalogue can be "too specialised" I would feel if a variety received a BW attribution in a certificate, then that would attract a high Marque for the owner. I would consider BW to be the "Bible" of Australian philately, yet it is still not perfect, nothing can be in an evolving study. Just my opinion of course. |

Quote: I have run into the "not in stock" situation with catalogs/reference books on several occasions. I hated to see Werner Zielniwicz (Germany) retire. If he didn't have a catalog/book in stock, he could generally find a copy for you. bookbndrbob, Werner's retirement was a sad day for Germany collectors. I now rely almost exclusively on Burkhard Schneider at Philabooks. He's been able to special order some stuff for me from German sources even if he doesn't have it in stock. |

Finches,
That stamp not covered in the BW catalogue. Is your query about the lighter colour at mid lower right?

Rod,
2004 BW volume only for stamps issued after Federation. The 1d Olive of that design is included. Red/yellow/brown issued prior to 1 January, 1901.

Thanks John. just received the tome, and getting familiar with the setup. The item is tightly bound, hoping my new format scanner will address that.
