Here is a cinderella with a great story.

Scott's published the story years ago...I misplaced a photocopy of the story, but I'll hit the high points.

In 1933, during the Depression, a collector (in Iowa?) named Russ Sabor was reaching a milestone at his company (Midland), and instead of getting a gold watch, he asked that a cinderella be issued in honor of his anniversary with the company. He wanted the stamps to be able to be given out to veterans and children who couldn't afford real stamps at that time.

Several colors were printed. I only have this color, which was a gift from a collector on another site. If you have any others, please post them.

Scott didn't have an interpretation of the inscription along the bottom. Any ideas on that?

There are numerous printing varieties to this stamp.

But very generalized, the varieties are a mix of -- 5 basic printing colors, 4 basic paper colors, perf and imperf, souvenir sheets...

They went all out on this one, just like with a normal sheet of stamps -- there are center lines, arrow lines, gutters, plate numbers... even errors (including imperf between)!

I don't collect cinderellas, so I'd be interested in seeing if anyone has the other stamps in this "set".

Out of curiosity, are there companies today that would make cinderellas for a person
similar to these or is it obsolete?

Yes, there are many companies that will make custom cinderellas.

Here is the LPCS Youth Benefit issue for 2010 produced by the Olathe Poste. I was proud to be the first one to purchase one for their charity fund-raiser. And I don't even collect cinderellas!

Here's a link to a website that shows the set:

I also found reference to the Scott Stamp Monthly article referred to. It was in SSM, March 2001, p.62. I'd be interested in reading about it but unfortunately I cannot find the article on-line. Does anyone have a copy of the article they would like to share for this post?
