Rod,
The Holy Trinity are the three apparitions of God. Saint Patrick used the shamrock to explain this to the people of Ireland.
The Irish clover, therefore, is three-leaved.
The label, probably, relates to KLM's intercontinental service that called at Shannon Airport, connecting in Amsterdam with the European continent. With many Irish and Italians living in New York, the connection via Ireland to Rome would have been important. |

The catalogue for the Netherlands is the NVPH Speciale Catalogus issued by the Dutch Association of Stamp Traders (Nederlandse Vereniging van Postzegelhandelaren).
Mine (1988) may be too old. It does not list stamp panes, only stamp books and combinations from stamp books. Yours are from books listed as nrs. 8 and 9 in my edition. The advertisement on the inside cover would be required to further identify the books. Both exist on ordinary and fluorescent paper. Typically, books are numberd 8a or 8aF, depending on whether or not they are of the fluorescent paper type. Book 8 has 8a - 8c and book 9 9a-9h. |

N.B., the route was New York - Gander - Shannon - Amsterdam (Schiphol).
A sticker, maybe? I do not see it in the 100-year official Jubilee Book. |

KLM recommenced its post-war New York service in 1946, being the first European airline to do so. They used the Connie and from 1953 the Super Connie.
The book was published by KLM to celebrate its 100th anniversary (7 October 2019) and given to its staff. |

Thank you Hans for the pictures. The following is not against you but the NVPH
I have to be honoust after decades of trying to get it right, the NVPH still manages to get it completely wrong.
When making the catalogue The briefing probably was: Try to make it as difficult and incoherent as possible.
I sometimes think of buying a new nvph catalogue, but pages like these make me come to my senses.
Sorry for the comments, I could not help myself

Seems simple enough to me, even though I don't read or speak Dutch... PB 8a is on regular paper and the booklet cover matches the illustration, PB 8aF is on florescent paper. The 8b and 8c varieties have a different booklet cover design. It doesn't look like they are pricing a single pane, just the whole booklet. I'd have to refer to Google Translate to figure out what Versnijdingen means. The yellow highlighted looks like individual stamps with various imperf edges, 12 refers to the perforation, 1 to the imperf side. |

I agree with Johan. Instead of listing a basic type and then its subtypes or varieties, it lists basic types and then for each type of variety it starts a listing. You, I assume, will find examples of what is meant by the types of "versnijding" on another page. Now this roughly translates into "(mis)cutting." The same goes for "plakking" that is "pasting."
The yellow highlights are combinations: C44 is a horizontal pair of 12 cent stamps, imperforate left and right (of the pair), C52 is a vertical pair of a 1 cent over a 12 cent stamp, imperforate at right (the imperforate side being the right would make it a vertical pair even if the 1 cent would have the imperforate side at top and calling it such is highly arbitrary; a horizontal pair imperforate at top would also be possible) C53 would be the only block from this booklet that has three 12 cent stamps and one 1 cent stamp. This should be imperforate left and right, but it does not state that.
The addition "with watermark" seems superfluous. The booklet listing does not mention a watermark. Why would the accompanying listing of combinations then do so?
Apparently not so simple. |
