I'm not sure what investiture of "time, effort, and money" has to do with dispensing information on a forum such as this. Anyone participating on this forum is free to contribute or not contribute as he or she chooses. I do not know the backgrounds of the vast majority of participants in this forum. But anyone participating over the years can point to information and advice offered freely by Richard Frajola, WT Crowe and god rest his soul, Bill Weiss—all recognized experts in the philatelic field. They did not have to do this. To malign Bill Crowe as participating in this thread for no other reason than he was the expertizer defending his opinion I think is: 1) inaccurate and #2) shows no class.

We should be better than this.

I use the Ashbrooke book for the 10 cent. Does the Neinken book add that much more?

funcitypapa, Save your self-righteous indignation for when you don't have to pair it with lies and exaggerations, otherwise it exposes you as somebody that is completely indifferent to the truth. I was in fact very careful to not malign Mr. Crowe. If HE thinks I did, I am also quite sure he can defend himself along with his certs.

I am not sure why this thread came off the rails, the first post certainly had nothing that would inherently cause it to.

This thread 'has delivered' in a bad way; I am unsure why folks feel the need to insult each other. In response to this thread I have received messages where people have threaten to quit the community and other messages demanding that I remove some of the posts in this thread. To be honest, it easiest thing for me to have done would have just to delete the entire thread and be done with it. The last thing I wanted to do is hover over threads like this and get sucked into the drama. I already had plenty of REAL drama in my life this week, including 6 different medical procedures in the last 5 days including surgery.

While I understand becoming angry with something that another person posts, I do not understand why more people do not simply contact each other privately. Posting public insults impacts more than the one person who is being responded to.

Since this thread appears to have run its course in terms of productive feedback, I am locking it.
