Here is a Norwegian stamp (Facit #950) featuring "Claus the Climbing Mouse". This is one of two different 2.00 kr. Christmas stamps from a booklet of ten (one pane). Theme of the booklet is children's stories. |

Hi, bookbndrbob, a nice addition, thanks! Perhaps because it's a Norwegian story , I can't find any background info in English. At least we know that every nation has a mouse hero of theirs, right? :-) "For life to be a fairytale#65292; perhaps all you need is to believe." - Walt Disney |

The little Dormouse, (Muscardinus avellanarius), also known as the Haselmouse, is a cousin to house and field mice but does, unlike them, hybernate most of the winter in a tidy nest of dry leaves and grass. One in a set of 2010 stamps featuring woodland animals. (Idebee, No, mice and rats aren't messy creatures! They keep themselves very clean all the time - dirty fur is a risk for cold and disease. k.) |

Hi idebee - Klatremus, the climbing mouse, comes from a children's book by T. Egners, first published in 1953: Klatremus og de andre dyrene I Hakkebakkeskogen / Klatremus and the other animals in Hakkeebakkeskogan. It's about the various animals in the forest trying to get along with each other, and avoid getting eaten. From a book review: "Morten Skogmus is the smallest of our smallest friends in Hakkebakkeskogen. He is kind and hardworking and strives with his and leaves the others at peace. Morten is a sensible little mouse. Climbing Mouse [Klatremus] is the friend of Morten Skogmus. Climbing mice are always hungry, but never cook themselves. Climbing mice love to sing and play. He has a positive outlook on life and believes that everything will work out for the best. When I am asked in company I cry out cheers! Because I like to eat, sing and be happy. The others they can strive for, but I do not want to - roll them. " One edition of the book cover: https://www.cappelendamm.no/sek-ass...96.jpg?w=360 |

Hi, Kris, great to get to know dormouse! Now I can understand why hamsters have so many fans! -) But for the house mouse, you know, we were educated that they are dangerous and can spread fatal diseases. So they are regarded as the first of 4 pests in China, there was even a national wide campaign to eliminate them. |

Hi, 22crows, thanks a lot for the info and the picture, now I know him better. You know, when I searched earlier, although I did not find anything about the Norwagian story, but find something about the red climbing mouse ((Vernaya fulv), and get to know that it's an endangered species in China, so it's also great to see a climbing mouse hero too. |

Quote: Emma, the theater-rat, meets the Moomins on this stamp from Finland
Hi, Vayolene, thanks a lot! Guess what? I just saw this pic before I see your stamp. Take a look at the postcard at the right top corner! What a coincidence! It's a Mooming card, isn't it? Someone is giving this card out on a pc forum. I am applying for it now after I saw your stamp and searched a little to confirm they are the same thing (I don't know Moomings before, so I just ignored it at first). Let's see if I am lucky enough to get this card. I will update on this later! |

This 1982 stamp (Facit #915) of Finland depicts the garden dormouse (Eliomys quercinus). This is a different animal from the one shown above by Kris Rascher, although this rodent also hibernates. The garden dormouse is mis-named because it is a forest creature. It is a nocturnal omnivore, The large ears, black facial markings, and tassel at end of the tail are its characteristic features. |

As its name says, the harvest mouse is a minute creature (Micromys minutus). It is one of the smallest of all mammals, weighing up to only 7 grams, which is about a third of an average letter. With the help of its prehensile tail it can climb on single stalks of grain to collect seeds. See also page one. |
