I would be appreciative of any commentary regarding AIEP certificates issued for Canadian material. I am going to be starting a quality Canada collection and have been running across a lot of material that has AIEP certs. It is unclear to me after reviewing the information on the AIEP website if dealers are able to issue these certificates for their own material.
To the best of my knowledge, there are only two AIEP experts specializing in Canada and BNA, Richard Gratton and Richard Sheryer. While I would prefer a Greene Foundation or BPA certificate, I would consider, in most cases. either of the two AIEP experts as authoritative. I'm not sure if they issue certificates on material they sell. Several dealers do issue their own certificates and I think that must be considered in evaluating the value of the certificate.
I have a few times, have had these certificates overturned by the Greene Foundation. One time, it was a Canada # 63 that was suppose to be NH. Sent it to the Greene, and it came back as OG only.
