How do we know the item was mailed? I don't see a delivery address. Maybe the stamps were just stuck on for some other reason? |

Lots of odd things got mailed that way. I see no reason to doubt it went through the mails, although the condition of the philatelic remnants is quite poor. Lacking some of the stamps, it is not surprising it is lacking the address portion also, which may have been on a tag. |

From what it looks like the U.S.Post Office accepted war souvenirs to be mailed home from the troops ,kind of a special service for them . |

Quote: That all changed in WWII Oh? Do go on ;-) I assume it had something to do with the fact a large portion of such souvenirs were taken from dead soldiers? |

The dealer who had the helmet shown in the OP coined the term "dimensional philately" for such items. Quote: Good luck fitting that in a cover album. You are thinking of the wrong cover holders, not letter covers but head covers. For mounting: Individual cover holder: |
