American APO 3909 - Where Was It Please ?

Here's a scarce cover and APO to add to your listing, Don.

APO 627 was the original APO assigned to the Flying Tigers of the China-Burma-India theater of WWII, under Claire Chennault, who would become General Chennault.

The cover is an early example, and as such, a scarce usage during the early period before the Flying Tigers were absorbed into the Army Air Corps.

Sorry, Stampman, but this isn't the case. The AVG became the 23rd Fighter Group on 4 July 1942, about 5 months before this cover.

This cover is from the China-Burma-India Theater. The 23rd Fighter Group, 76th Fighter Squadron was based out of Hengyang, China, as that is one of several locations in China which used APO 627.

This is should be an early use of the duplex device as it is a blank canceler, lacking the customary APO designation within the CDS. The squadron was assigned to Kunming China in August 1942 for the second time, having been in Kweilin as of July 1942.
