Newbie just learning here and came across this Queen Victoria Thirty Cents weights and measures stamp that looks completely unused. What were these used for and is there any collectible value to them. I wouldn't think much but still curious as to their purpose and collectibility... Thanks!

Queen Victoria's head looks exactly like the engraving on Canada OX3. I believe that both stamps were products of the American Banknote Company. Was it the same engraving?

Here is a pic of the back. Looks never hinged but has a bit of a crease so definitely not mint. Shame... Lovely stamp none-the-less!

Hab, they are highly collectable federal revenue stamps, just as the federal and provincial law stamps are.

As to your question, they are weights and measures inspection stamps that are affixed to certificates by federal government inspectors; as receipts for fees paid by the public for the verification of weights, measures and measuring devices used for trade purposes.

Unfortunate creasing but still a very nice stamp. Very well must have been seperated from document. It is quite hard to beat the real engraved stamps of the past.
