Transvaal 1 Pound 1892 original, reprint or forgery? The postage stamp is from one good collection ... so I have a tutorial if it's original because this is not my collection area.

Forgery.

OK ----We need to clear the air about this stamp -----I am no expert ,never was and never will be ......I am a worldwide collector !!

First I read all the links here about this stamp and a lot of so call experts are giving their input .

So let me put up what I have ,since they don't seem to have the material . The first stamp and the fourth stamp are FAKES ,the second stamp and third stamps are real .

Notice the difference in the perforations not measure but the cut and how the holes are different .

Two stamp of Transvaal: 1 Sh/Sc#220 and 5 Pnd./Sc#135.
Perforation 12 1/2 but different paper (1 Sh 0.04mm wove white -gray/
5 Pnd 0.07mm white paper)
The 1 Sh stamp have a bigger holes.

The key to expertizing these stamps I believe they used the original plates. It is the color shade as you see in my scan of the 4
pence,then the paper differences and then the perforation hole pattern . I believe all three are important ,to make the buyer comfortable .

You are right floortrader ... and I would add ... a lot of experience.
It is important to hold the genuine and forged stamp.
I have stamps French colonies type Groupe (genuine and forgerie) and although I am a beginner collector I can easily identify them.
Unfortunately the forgeries are made on the valuable stamps that I will surely never have.
