Let's try and get a good list of these colorful labels when the "part time posties" came out of the wordwork. I'll kick off with "St Valentines day" label.

The Postal strike ran from January 20th 1971 to March 8th 1971 Apparently Camels were employed. |

I always disliked the use of the term label for a postage stamps. To me a label implies that no denomination is applied, where as a postage stamp clearly indicates a denomination. These stamps clearly state their value for postage.
These are very nice examples of of UK Strike Mail where most of these posts provided real postal service. |

Yes but this Grover was imperferated. This is a great example of a postage stamp with a singluar purpose, to frank mail. No theme, just purposed.
Right Scott! |

Quote: OK, I take you point Steve, and valid it is, Are we able to change the Topic text? Rod, It's Mike not Steve ! You see, more proof of the growing number of members and messages.....it gets confusing ! I hope you don't change the topic title. Mike says that to him they are postage stamps and it's just a matter of terminology. In most cases, these are called labels, pure and simple. Maybe calling them Postage stamps is the term used in the USA and that's OK too. Many different terms around at SCF. In the UK and Israel they are labels, I guess in Oz too. Even the computer generated 'stamps' one gets at the post office are called labels, even by Royal Mail and Israel Post. And while on the terminology subject, here is another example. I call a 'Local' a Stamp even though they are far less postally used than Strike Post labels Londonbus1....It's all in the terminology ! |

Ooooh, you've caught me there LB, I am afriad I have no idea, I have not come across these on the web either, so far. There is a catalogue of British Strike mail, it may be in there, I would prefer a cat on Lundy, before I spent out on strike mail.

Quote: I would prefer a cat on Lundy, before I spent out on strike mail. I have a Labbe's specialized on CD. Excellent. I just need to get some more Lundy material to use it more often ! Ralph Philips who lives here in Israel, has issued some CD's on Strike Mail, locals, Railway stamps, JNF labels. I will have to indulge in them all. Many items I come across are hard to find. I saw draft copies [paper form] of the Railway catalogue and one other when we met at Israel 2008 in Tel Aviv. I was very impressed. I will contact him. Here we are at the show.RP is standing, I am sitting and it's not my beer !! Londonbus1.....hic ! |

Rohumpy, The T-Shirt was a Birthday gift from an American Birthday Club member on another group. It caused quite a stir at that exhibition as a number of collectors wanted to buy the stamp !! I was pestered for quite a while during the day. I will wear it again in London in May !! Londonbus1...obviously loves being pestered |
