205C was a special printing, correct? I doubt a special printed stamp would be so badly centered. Weren't they issued without gum? If so that would make a used one unlikely, wouldn't it?

Your 205 is brown, like all of them.

"Brown" has a certain amount of unlisted variation, as well as the shades that are listed. We are talking about ink that was mixed in the 1880's by hand; yesterday's leftovers were added to today's mixture on a regular basis. The idea of color quality control was a pipe dream; I doubt anyone even though about it.

It looks like a badly faded Essay, Scott 184-E5.e in violet. Catalog value is $15 in sound condition with bright color and strong imprint. Your copy has little monetary value unfortunately.
