I collect used US stamps. Do the 1935 ungummed Special Printing gutter pairs ever appear as canceled stamps? ebay searches seem to list them only in mint/non-canceled condition. Is this because the stamps were issued as souvenirs under the expectation that they would not be used as postage?

Yes, they do exist, but are considerably harder to find than mint examples. I agree, the lack of gum would deter their use.



Finding them on non-FDC's is even harder, although this is sent by a collector, as most would be:
