Help Me Out No One Can Figure This Grill?

This stamp also has some kind of wax tape on it how can I remove this without damaging the stamp it looks like a B grill to me. Any help would be much appreciated thanks.

It looks like a hinge to me. Have you tried soaking it?

Why do you feel it is a "B" grill? A "B" grill has points up, meaning they show as up raised on the face of the stamp and the size of the grill is 22 points across by 18 points tall. As you think this stamp might be a "B" grill, I assume it is a 3¢ stamp of the same design as Scott 65. Based on your scan I count 14 points across and the points appear to be down. Your stamp may well be a Scott 88 "E" grill.

Jvpool: The wax tape is the remnant of a paper hinge that was once used to attach the stamp to an album page. You can immerse the stamp in water and the remnant will easily detach after a while. Then press the wet stamp between pieces of clean absorbent paper under weight (like a book) to dry and dewrinkle it.
