Siam Thailand Revenues, Agriculture Issues Part 1

During collecting of Thailand revenue stamps during the past 25 years, I have met several times people who did have in their collection Thailand revenues but they had no idea that they were from Thailand.
The older revenues do not have a country name, neither in the Thai language nor in the English language.
Dependent on the interest for this topic, I can make this a frequent regular update of the various issues.

Agriculture revenues. This are the oldest revenue stamps from Siam.
From 1883-1897, a tax was levied on the harvest of rice fields
In the beginning every year there was a different color stamp issued in 6 different values, with the values indicated with Thai words. There are a total of 17 different colors identified
These stamps were printed in France. Used from 1892-1897. Starting 1892, leftover stamps from previous years were overprinted with in Thai numbers 111, 112, 113 and 114, indicated the Thai year Ratanakosin sok (RS). With the year 1889 is RS111
In total, including the overprints there are about 200 different stamps to collect. The common stamps selling now on ebay for about $5 each and the more rare stamps selling for $150++

RS108 = 1889
RS111 = 1892

Ar these stamps easy to find in Thailand.? I mean ;are Thai collectors interested in them?

These stamps are difficult to find in Thailand itself. Most of the these stamps come from old European collections.
Till some 25 years ago, hardly anybody in Thailand had interest in collecting revenues and hardly anything was known about them.
Any stamps in Thailand on or off document had to withstand termites, and the hot humid tropical weather, so many of the Thailand stock disintegrates upon touching.

Some 20 years ago there were some 10 active collectors in the world on these stamps with about 5 Thai and 5 foreigners. Nowadays I estimate that number to be around 50. Some of the revenues are very rare. If there are 50 collectors and only 10 known copies, the prices can be high, specially for documents

I know there are auction houses there.Is the local market influenced by foreign sales ?

The stamp market in Thailand is hot and cold. Hot for any specialties or varieties or covers. Normal postage stamps after 1960 are quite difficult to sell compared to some years ago. That market is kind of saturated. Prices do not drop a lot but also do not increase.
The most special auction house in Thailand is www.eurseree.com
If you look at their sales catalog for December 2019, you will see that there are quite some items sold for more than 1 million baht or more than Euro 30,000 or USD 33,000
Many of the high bidders are rich Thai people and if the item is unique, they bid the price up and up.
