I'm Thinking Of Buying A Copy Of The Scott 1610A Omitted Color

Do you know if these come paired with the normal Scott 1610? And where I might buy such a thing if they exist?

There are quite a few large blocks available of the error. I cannot see how one stamp would have the brown omitted and the one next to it does not.

Thanks for your reply! I've seen blocks of four of these for sale and I THOUGHT I saw a pair as I describe.

According to the 2019 Edition of the Scott Error Catalogue transition strips do exist:

1610a brown omitted,transition strip, one with dark brown omitted - value $400

I do not know who might have one.

Have 1610A Omitted Color transition strips been found used on cover? If not, how do you know if these were ever actually shipped to the PO and are not just printers waste that someone stole out the back door?

I just think this and 1608a are such neat errors. 1608a seems to be much tougher to find than 1610a.

Just because any ERROR was not found used on cover they exist...that is not a necessity (ex: c3a)

True enough, but in the case of the C3a it was documented that the stamps got delivered to the PO. For me, I would not want to support a market for printers waste.

Scott Catalog of Errors for 1610a does not list printers waste as a source (as it does do for a few other listings).

There are 1000+ examples.


Compared with other color omits, this is not even close to scarce (<100). Singles go for about 150 retail.

I personally do collect a few printers waste examples, but only where it is within the area of my collection's specialization. It's simply about getting all known varieties extant.

I see folks (not me) buying forgeries, even of c3a as they are now apparently collectible. I support whatever people want to collect, so long as they are not engaging in wrongdoings, misrepresenting, or ripping people off.

1000+ is much less scarce that I thought.
