Quote: You mean like teenagers, like, have, like, built in? Hahaha! No, Geoff -- I meant a button like Facebook has under each post. If you like the post, you can show it by clicking the button. And my comment was mostly tongue-in-cheek, although I really did like the "get off my lawn" conclusion of Dan's post. |

Quote: No doubt there will be many beautiful stamps, but what they are really saying is that someone who almost certainly seriously overpaid for the material will now take a bath when selling it, because several of the former big buyers are no longer doing so. So most collectors will enjoy viewing the eye candy that is out of their price range, and post how they wish they could afford them. There is one side of me that wants to let this thread just run it's course. But, I keep coming back to Revcollector's initial reply to a purely factual and dispassionate posting by Rogdcam, who was simply quoting Siegel's press release for the upcoming Morton Sale. If you would have just left it at, "No doubt there will be many beautiful stamps..." without the BUT, we would have all been better served. Revcollector, you are obviously a very knowledgeable collector who has much to share with this community. Constantly reminding us of your intellectual superiority, along with a subtle dose of smug arrogance, is not IMHO, the best approach. |

Quote: I agree with archerg, this thread is following the current socio political divide seen in the world today. There is no real value in debating that since it typically results in bad feelings that have nothing to do with our hobby. But not always, and not in this thread. I would rather be in the arena of vigorous debate of ideas than the dull, banal world of suppressed opinions and everyone just getting along, It's called being part of the polity. |

I definitely have no experience... or anything for that matter to comment on this thread, :) (ha) But I will any way. I agree, a like button would be nice. and yes, I agree with/like Dan's commentary.
I also believe, that in philately, as I do in life...that we should not judge, we should have the freedom to express ourselves and "do" philately they way we want. At the end of the day, not matter what brought us to this hobby - young, old, rich, poor - the goal is to improve or fulfill our lives in some way or another. Salud, Nora.

Echoing Nora...be kind to each other. Love your neighbor as yourself. That is all.

Unless you are the guy who has to invest many hours each week in dealing with the drama that goes on behind the scenes when members of this community do not get along. Don |

or takes more effort than a simple "like" button, of course, but actually posting a reply is part of the fun, in my opinion. |

Hi Don
I know where you're coming from.
Been there, done that, didn't like it. (mainly because I didn't feel I was very good at it). Hardest part was trying not to make an enemy of either side during the dispute.
One thing I like about stamp collecting is that the stamps don't come to me complaining about other stamps. |

"Funcitypapa - Grading was not mentioned until your post. Is that the issue with the Morton collection?"
Ten of the 12 items pictured in the link of the original post are graded. Clearly it will have a significant percentage of graded stamps. |

Revcollector:
Last entry on page 2 of this thread at 7:59am yesterday— "This is just the by product of a passion for the hobby and a genuine feeling that grading has done irreparable damage..."
Your words my friend, not mine. |

Polity: Any form of government or organized society.
cj, I had to look that one up... LOL just kidding. In any event for what its worth, I've got Revs back. He was a complete gentleman when we met up at 2016 NYC World Stamp Show. He was willing to meet up with an obvious new comer to the hobby and was nothing but gracious. So I would say..., of course disagree with his opinions if need be but attacking his character... bah... waste of time.

stamp collecting has enough real or percieved problems that we dont need to tear each other apart over how we think or collect. I agree with the previously stated oponions re love thy neighbor etc.... |
