This collection of items are about two brothers who had signed up for duty in WWI on the 27 of Dec. 1915.
Orders to report for duty on the 8th of May were issued and dated the 29th of April, they were received on the 3rd of May, 1916. (5 days to report).
Looking closer I discovered the paper these orders were issued on were watermarked and with further investigation I realized the watermarks matched perfectly and they both came from the same sheet of paper..
The sheet was originally 13 inches X 8 inches.
Interestingly also is they appear to have been typed by two different people on different typewriters.
The watermark reads "superfine linen record" the words are topped with a shield.
The last two pictures are of the Peterborough Armouries circa 1915 where they reported.
Couple of questions, first are items such as these even appropriate for this forum?
Is there a registry for watermarks on government stationary?
Anyone recognize the watermark or shield?

Cheers, Bill

Bill,
Try Rolland paper Company
https://www.rollandinc.com/en/about-us

Whilst in the first instance, the items would have been typed,
the items were reproduced in the thousands on a "Roneo" ? machine,
Alas! I am old enough to remember these machines, and the smell that accompanied them (Spirit) The duplicating fluid typically consisted of a 50/50 mix of isopropanol and methanol

Stencil Duplicator is the one I recall

Paper Watermarks:

The Gravell Watermark Archive is bringing together more than 50,000 watermarks from America and Europe, including 7,500 images collected by American-watermark expert Thomas L. Gravell and about 45,000 unpublished marks documented by Charles-Moise Briquet. On the website, you can search for stags, swans, or unicorns, creatures from a medieval bestiary produced long ago by wire attached to a paper mould. (Watermarks are made by placing a design made with thin wire on a paper mould. The paper formed over the wire is thinner and translucent when held up to a light source.)

Indeed. In the 2nd edition of the Field Guide there are 3 extra stamps for cc2610, all issued in 1957 to celebrate the company's 75th anniversary. These are the two others...

Hounddog,

Very appropriate!

Including WWI in the title would generate more interest in other aspects of the collection.

Appreciate all the replies, thanks to all.
I looked at some other items I have and it seems that a lot of Government offices used this same paper.
The House of Commons used a couple of suppliers including Rolands.
The Department Of Militia and Defence Headquarters in Ottawa used it.
As far as the one letter being on laid paper it seems by what I have that laid paper was used quite frequently up until around 1919.
This is not a rule just my observation from all the items I have.
DStamp, I don't think I can change anything now but I will Include WWI references if appropriate in the future, good suggestion as titles are important.

Cheers, Bill

Fascinating documents, I especially liked the notes to the brothers with sequential numbers. WWI era too.

Thanks for sharing
