My Mexico Album - Scott

It has finally arrived! After 3 weeks of waiting :) I will use this thread to share my work and pages! Yay!

Just a little test run - love these pages, so so nice and substantial. The Ferdinand Maximilian is not in his correct spot, he is just hanging out there ;) he is Scott #33.

Thank you Walkman. Question - for anyone who can give me advice. I am having a little bit of a hard time with the perfs on some of these Numerals. This one for example - due to wear and tear I imagine - cut perfs etc. This stamp does not have a watermark, looks to be Scarlet in color and is postmarked 1888. My question is the side perfs - is there a way for me to determine if it is 12 perf or possibly 6? I am thinking it is probably 12 all around - but wanted to ask for advice. Nora.

The trick is, to set aside a known stamp of guage 12.
(It can be any country, pref. a duplicate, write on back "PERF 12")

Then simply take your unknown Mexican, place it alongside your known perf, (both face down) and I bet you will see the perf tips (Teeth) line up or not.

Does not matter if there are huge gaps, the teeth will look aligned if the guage is identical.

Keep the Perf 12 guaged stamp, in a glassine front of Album, for later use.

Similar method how I measure my Turkey Guage 7 (Largest on my Perf Guage)

I always thought perf on these stamps depended on how many teeth the postal clerk used to chew the stamp off the sheet.
