Hi folks,
I am having trouble finding information on how to differentiate a London printing from a Turin printing on this stamp. Can anyone offer me pointers on how to tell them apart? What do I have here?

Thanks, in advance,
Chris

You would need to find stamps that were canceled before the end of 1865 , that would be a start .

De la rue printed these stamps until 1865,afte which they were printed in Turin by the state plant. Identification by the cancel is maybe ok for late usage of the stamp.
Perforations in the London printings are more pecise with better centering.
*mint stamps:
The gum is distinctly different .In the London printing it is less thick and shiny. Not the characteristic streaks, sometimes dark in color caused by the thickrning of the gum visible in the Turin printings.

The most interesting detail is looking for the security colorless varnish overprint on the paper. This was applied by de la rue on the paper before printing. As time went by this varnish yellowed and shows up like dots of yellow more or less even over the stamp.Below your first stamp where the pic was enhanced showing the yellow dots.So we can say that your first stamp is from the London printing.

From an Internet seller. Biondi cert. London printing.
notice the yellow spots. (pic enhanced).

Another example. Enhanced on the left.Normal lighting of the same stamp on the right.(London printing).

The London & Torino printings of the entire set mint are very expensive.Especially with sheet margin letters.Used ; some premiums depending on the value and cancel types; and on cover.

Reading this old topic, I have some questions… For example, is it possible to find the London issue with postmarks after 1965? That is, if someone kept a London stamp, could they have used it years later, when the Turin issue was already in circulation? This doubt arises after seeing the website https://www.ibolli.it/php/specializ...lia&fr_id=20, since there they make the distinction through color.
Another question is, do the yellow dots always appear or do they only appear under certain temporal, climatic, etc. circumstances? Thanks
