gmot: Were they mint plate blocks? Ever since these stamps were newly classified as dry (Stickney) rotary press printed rather than dry (Hoe) flat plate press printed interest in them has greatly increased. See https://goscf.com/t/60662

Thanks for the link, interesting. Yes, they were, 2 from plate 1 and one from plate 3, IIRC. Came in a recent auction lot, I kept a mint single for my collection as I don't collect blocks. Perhaps I should have asked more for them :).

Hi all. A question was raised by Wert regarding identifying a used copy. Can I assume that the image would be a mm or so smaller than the dry printing because of shrinkage??

Interesting topic.

Here is a scan of the page with Canada Scott # 196d:

The perforations for # 196d should be 11 1/4 x 11 and not 11 1/4 x 12 as shown.
Canada Scott # 196c with inverted surcharge is a non-existing incorrect listing.

Is this stamp listed in the Unitrade Canada 2024 catalogue as 196i or 196d?

Looks like it still has it as 196i instead of 196d.
