The USPS has this wonderful link for domestic letter rates since 1863, https://about.usps.com/who-we-are/p...nce-1863.pdf

but, I'm mostly interested in collecting express mail covers and finding what those rates are. I couldn't find info on the USPS site, and nothing stood out to me in the APS philatelic library (at least, nothing stood out to me based on the cover of the books, I have yet to check anything out yet)

Before I do start requesting random books, I thought I'd check here first. Maybe one of you knows of a link or a title of a specific book that has this information.

Thanks!

Uh, not to state the obvious - well, okay, just to state the obvious - a stamp catalog will tell you the First Day of Issue of every USPS express mail & priority mail stamp, and that, in turn, will give you a pretty good idea which editions of the Postal Bulletin to check for the date that rate came into effect.

Cheers,

Beecher & Wawrukiewicz's "U.S. Domestic Postal Rates, 1872-2011" (3rd ed) is the place to go. The Express rates are far more complicated than just the few Express Mail rate stamps.

IkeyPikey, I appreciate you stating the obvious--I actually didn't even think to just look in the Scott's Catalogue.
JohnBecker-- Thank you!! This is exactly the information I was looking for. Appreciate it

dgwhite87:

The USPS publishes a complete set of rates each time they change, generally every 6 or 12 months, under the title Notice 123.

The current rates can be seen at: https://pe.usps.com/cpim/ftp/manual...otice123.pdf

They don't maintain historical rates on-line, but you can find a few older ones with a Google search for something like "USPS Notice 123" and the year you are interested in.

Mike has been kind enough to contribute his collection of USPS Notice 123 files and they are now posted on Stamp Smarter here http://stampsmarter.com/Learning/PostalRates.html
