What topical stamps would you not use on an envelope or package that you are sending to someone you know, or to someone who might judge you based on the stamps you use.
I would not use #1549 Retarded Children Can be Helped or #1927 Alcoholism "You Can Beat It".

If someone would judge me based upon a postage stamp that I used than I do not need to know them. |

rogdcam: I agree 100% on principle with your comment. However, I predict an internet news headline sooner or later of "Family Member/Friend/Co-worker/Neighbor etc Offended by Postage Stamp on Envelope." |

This thread illustrates one of democracy's difficult areas -- the problems that may arise out of collisions between freedom of speech and political correctness. It's a minefield! |

I recently sent a letter with a Cosby Show stamp. I also like using Eid stamps on Christmas cards to my most conservative friends. |

We should not of course offend people except of course those who deserve to be offended. I like to use the Irish Che Guevara stamp from 2017 on mail to some countries. Or indeed the Our Lady of Fatima stamp of the same year offends a different group of people internationally. The British Margaret Thatcher stamp on the right postcard can cause offence. I am an equal opportunity offender. I have already prepared about ten postcards (including some sent to me a month ago by friends in USA) for the "Pride" stamps which will be issued in the Summer. Of course I dont actually send these stamps TO people who will be offended. That would not be a nice thing to do. And counter-productive if they collect stamps. Rather it is a matter of identifying or not identifying with somebody or something. If the stamp is approved by a committee and legal, there is no reason not to use it. The year 2020 could be a vintage year. |

PC is in the mind of the observer. The REAL trouble begins when the observer tries to make his/her PC the law. |

Why "the image of a rifle" would be non-pc would indeed be a real head scratcher. Then again sports teams are taking heat for American Indian images and names and gender pronouns can cause a ruckus and...….. There was a high school student in my neck of the woods that sued the school over the color of the graduation gowns and the after it went to court the school settled and changed the gowns to what he/she had proposed rather than spend tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars on attorney's fees. Plus it made the school look progressive and "woke". Never mind that the vast majority of students did not want the change to rainbow graduation gowns. Strange time that we live in. We now return to regular scheduled philatelic programming. |

Funny comments - older people complaining about those younger people changing society. I remember reading stuff by one of the ancient Roman writers to much the same extent! |

This word "woke" is something I have only heard in the past few months and I love it. I have been "woke" for years and I never even knew it. I take "gmots" point about young people changing society. The whole point of young people is to do exactly that. I did my bit and now I am old and tired. Usually in England, the words "Political Correctness" are followed by "gone maaaaad" an indication that someone disapproves of some new fangled concept and of course it is true that in some cases, attempts to be "politically correct" are laughable. In fact the term "politically correct" is now apparently not er "politically correct". The new term is "diplomatically correct" underscoring the fact that it has nothing to do with politics as such. It is more to do with good manners. I also love the term "virtue signalling" which I have been doing for decades without knowing it. |
