First time I see something like this. Even though I collect used only I think that would be a nice addition to my collection. I'd be willing to offer a little more than the $50.
Ken, are you planning on auctioning this stamp? |

perf12 - on the ebay pair shown, there is a faint showing of the "missing" design, whereas for KRelyea's stamp, I see blank. |

Thanks Perf 12. Maybe a little more common than I thought.
Question though: on the link that Perf 12 gives us, both copies show a faint impression of what should have been printed in red and I don't believe that shows on Ken's stamp. Would that make a difference in the value of Ken's stamp?

There is a trace in the numerals.. With this stamp;the red ink resists very poorly against solvents .. check with a UV light. Value ZERO These are not considered varieties but printing defects range Blue/Red. |

Thank you for your comments. So this stamp would have been altered by removing the red ink with a solvent of some kind as to make it pass as a missing color error.
Some day I might have to stop giving the benefit of the doubt. Point taken and lesson learned.
Thank you. |

The printing defect exists for real in different graduations as seen above. The use of solvents would be in the case of manipulated stamps; (forgeries, if you want). |

The frameline on Kens stamp is broken in a couple places and the upper left corner looks like the paper was rubbed. As well there is a faint redish blob directly below the republic shield behind the ear. |

Here is an image of the stamp in question with adjustments of levels & gamma You can see the denomination & outline of the red hairline. My vote is for chemical alteration |

This stamp printed without red is Maury 1282b. That means ,NO red at all. The majority on the market are manipulations. The rare types are very shifted red/rose in the printings. These can sell for well over 500 euros in auctions.
