An ebayer wrote and asked me a question and it's beyond my experience, can anyone help?

Hello again!! It's been awhile since our last contact, but I have been checking out your auctions. You really have a lot of great offers. I have a question about Cyprus: If I want to collect Turkish Cyprus, must I also collect Cyprus? I'm having great difficulty finding an affordable album for Turkish Cyprus. I know Scott used to publish one, because I had it previously (twice). But when I contacted them to purchase either an album or pages for the album, I was told that I had to use Scott blank pages for it. I have checked out the other album brands. Many are too expensive and others are not on quality paper. All of the pages that I have collected for my different albums are on Scott Specialty paper. I was even thinking about copying pages onto the blank pages I have. My concern is that the pages to be copied may not have the entire country represented. So I'm in a frustrating place trying to solve this issue. I haven't received adequate information from other sellers; hence, my request to you. I have been searching for more than three years. Anything you can do to assist me in this endeavor would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to hearing from you. Be safe and God bless and keep you and yours!!

Thanks,

Ken

Good idea, thanks. I responded;

I referred your question to the "Stamp Community Forum" if you google it you will see your question under the heading "Philatelic Book, Reference, Supply and Software". A responder suggested using the Steiner pages which cost $50/year for unlimited downloads.

The SCF is a terrific resource for the collector and after you look it over you may want to join us for discussions of hundreds of philatelic topics.

Ken,
just a correction, I believe Mr. Steiner's pages are $50 or thereabouts,(a Guess) for a once only payment, and one gets Album Pages for the entire World Catalogue.
I paid $38 some 5 years ago.

He must have changed it. If you click on "What does it cost?" it says;

Website Membership. This gets you a username and password that will let you download and print off anything and everything on the website for one year. The cost is only $50.00.

I chose the "CD Rom" option
That does not include the monthly updates
(Ergo I am 5 years behind)

However I have every country on my hard disk, I can print 1 page from any country in the world, on the fly.

$50 for CDRom +$25 if you wish the monthly updates

Website CD-ROM. This CD contains EVERYTHING that's available for download from the website. The CD is updated once a month. So why order the CD if you can download the same pages for the same money? Just convenience. If you don't have regular internet access, or want to give it to a relative who isn't internet literate, the CD alone may make more sense. But note that the CD alone doesn't get you access to the website for
updates and new pages. You'll need the Membership + CD-ROM as offered below for that. In my opinion, the CD alone probably isn't the best best for many people. Either simple Website Membership or the combined Membership + CD usually makes the best sense. But I wanted to offer it alone in case it fits your situation better. It's priced at $50.00 which includes shipping anywhere in the world.

Also, it is possible to print Bill Steiner's pages on Scott album pages. But it takes a little creativity, as I've discovered. If Scott, or Amos as they're now known, sold "all blank" paper it would be easy. But they don't. All-blank paper solves the problem of having a border on the blank page on which you are printing a page layout which also has a border on it. You don't want two borders on your album pages.

But there are options.

1. You can order Scott-sized pages with Steiner's page layout already printed on them. You can get these pages from a website called 'AlbumPages' (dot) something. They're pretty cheap. The border will be that very plain Steiner border on Scott-sized paper with either rectangular binder holes or 3-ring holes, whichever you prefer.

2. From the same website, you can buy all-blank pages in Scott sizes with rectangular holes already punched in them and print them yourself, if you prefer. You can print on a good photocopy machine (at Fedex or wherever you prefer) using any size of Steiner pages as your 'originals,', including pages printed on your home printer. As above, you'll get the Steiner layout and its very simple border printed on your own all-blank pages, the same as #1.

3. Or print your Steiner pages on Scott pages with Scott borders. Print the Steiner pages that you want to print on Scott pages at home and make a template that covers up the borders on your Steiner page printouts. That way the Steiner pages can be printed on a photocopy machine onto blank Scott pages (meaning with Scott borders on them) without also printing the Steiner border, as well. It may take a little adjusting on the photocopy machine to get things lined up properly, moving the originals back and forth and up and down a little to get them centered on the pages you're printing. But once you've got it, it will work just fine, and you can get Steinger pages on Scott bordered paper.

One warning about #3. Some of Steiner's page layouts are just a bit too wide to fit everything in the blank space of Scott pages. With a few stamp boxes, you may need to sacrifice a few left or right lines. With mounts this may not matter to you.

I've mainly done this to fill in gaps in albums where I'm missing pages that are no longer in print. But you could easily make an entire album this way, too, if that seemed preferable.
