10 Cent Perforations

Can you guys tell me what perfs this stamp has ? I was very impressed when a few of you overlaid a perf grid over my Scott 292 Cattle stamp when you were discussing the perforations on that stamp.

I realize this stamp is a Canada stamp this time but if you could assist again much appreciated. I especially need to know if these perfs are geniune or if they have been re-perfed later. This issue is suppossed to measure 11 3/4 x 11 3/4 or close to that but these perfs as you will see are not that. Hence the mystery.

Not sure why you posted that on an unrelated thread, but the right side is one of the worst reperf jobs I've ever seen.

my first thought also. what a shame on an otherwise nice stamp.

Without knowing at least one actual dimension, you can't overlay a grid that will tell you the perf gauge.

So what is the vertical dimension of the stamp -- top frame line to bottom frame line in millimeters to a tenth of a millimeter?

22.25 mm (2 cm plus 2.5 mm)

I digitally cut your stamp image off the background, rescaled it to my digitized U.S Specialty Multi-Gauge based on your measurement of your stamps frame size. Pasted it on top of the gauge and moved it around till it lined up. Shows just over 12, say 12.1.

Note: this will only be accurate if your measurement was accurate, like +/- 0.1mm. If your measurement was only +/- 0.5mm I would not rely on this answer.

Thanks Banknoteguy - so how do I read this? Is it only measuring the top and bottom perf horizontal rows? I see the bottom is perf 12 but the top 10?? What about the sides vertical rows. Can you move the stamp to show what perfs the sides are?

Usually this stamp should be 11 3/4 all around for a early Group One issue. For Group Two it should be 12 on top and 11 3/4 on sides.
Group Three is perf 12 all around.

So what perfs does this one have?

Only the bottom which looks 12.1 to me. I know nothing about Canadian stamps. So, I have no idea whether 12.1 makes any sense at all.

I would have to move the stamp around to check the top and sides. Are they likely different?
