The ugliest, horrid stamps imaginable.

Yet I love the little blighters
Probably because I found out all by myself, I hadn't read any journalism on them, but I never throw away a stamp, and
I became curious that some of them were scribbled on in peculiar ways.

After a number of years it became apparent that this was not vandalism but somehow had hidden meaning.
I had discovered "Theft Prevention"

I now have a bonzer collection, and whilst they are revolting, they make a beautiful India page.
The first thing I do now, at auction, with India, is search for these blighters.

Kudos to all the unnamed stamp collectors who throw nothing away,
these little uglies have survived.

Two more from the "Bata" or "Baja" shoe company,
I am not sure which Indian state.

Note as well, only the Rupee values suffer the indignation.

Here is a singleton "theft prevention"
At first I thought it to be a signature,
It turns out to be a documented "Theft prevention" "Stamped"
with a flourish through the "T" of stamped, to prevent the stamp
being lifted from the cover. The flourish crosses the stamp and "ties" the stamp to the cover.





Here is the documented practice, witnessed on cover and almost Identical, surely from the same hand.

i am not wasting the phaser on you. the batteries cost a bomb it for the stamps and this one goes stright through mirrors its the 1k version :)

Some of the postmark uglies that are becoming a part of the modern decimal collector's stock book because that's the way they come. Some of the uglies are growing on me that are part stike examples.

Yes Rod! The auctions are a great way to get those hard to get high denominations from the past if you are a postal bidder. Thats if the P.O does not destroy them with horrible postmarks or pen cancellations. The cat postage is the one in question. Family & KGV

Here in Perth KG5
we have a Red Cross Stamp shop,
and they sell that type of material, including high values,
for $10 a kilo.
All modern stuff though.
All staffed by volunteers
