When an envelope blank is fed thru a press with the cylinders not engaged (i.e., not putting the "squeeze" on the die), you get a disengaged cylinder kiss.

Some ink is applied to the blank as it slides through the press, but there is no embossing.

can this be a complete transfer of ink ( full image) but no embossing? trying to learn.

I don't believe so. I don't think the die is re-inked every rotation.

I have a set of several of these with a decreasing amount of ink. Can't find them right now, but I'll post here when they show up.
