It almost looks like the corners were folded over twice. I've never seen it before, but I imagine the sender nervously holding the stamp while contemplating whether or not to send the letter. One corner gets folded over and fiddled with, then the next to match. After 15-30 minutes of fiddling with it, the decision is made to send it. Lick, stick, drop in the mail - and that's how it ended up like that. Annie might be Andrew's daughter. Hence the nervousness about sending the letter. But I don't know any more than the next guy. I'm just trying to imagine how it happened. Stan |

I agree that the strip in the Siegel sale indicated as 26-28L1E is in fact 41-43L1E. This also affects my guide dot charts as this strip was used to plot those three positions. Also I note that it would make the right guide guide shown on my charts for 41L1E incorrect. I will correct the images in the database and revise the guide dot chart for plate 1 early left pane accordingly. Here is the image of that strip and a comparison of the middle stamp with the plating marks for 42L1E from the Franklin Archive. |

The database has been changed and the guide dot chart has also been changed. Here is the updated guide dot chart at 90%. |

jaxom100 - Thanks for all the work you do maintaining the Stampsmarter 1¢ 1851-57 Plating Initiative. After the Neinken mats, the guide dot images are probably the source that I use the most for plating. I look forward to seeing your work on Plate 3 and Plate 4. |

I have been considering adding images for the right pane of plate 3 from Siegel's database recently. Not sure if I can find enough images to build a guide dot chart. I would love to have any images from plates 1E, 2, 3 or 4 that anyone wants to share to add to the database. |

Jaxom, I am guessing that this 1R2 isn't much help for your images. The top has a double impression and the bottom is kind of cut off. :( Stan Shepp |

Jaxom saw this and thought 17L4. Asked me to post it here. Voila! Stan Shepp |

I had this plated as Position 97R1L with a Blue September 4 PAID from Charleston, SC - also with a Stitch Watermark. Jaxom felt it was closer to a 95R1L and asked me to post it here. Stan Shepp |

On this one, I'm sure of the plating. It was originally plated by Stanley Ashbrook and comes with his signed plating notes. Stan Shepp |

This one is fairly easy, position 1R1E with black circular grid cancel. Stan Shepp |

Graded XF-90, but apparently not plated. I had it marked as a 'rimless' NEW YORK cancel, but there is some rim visible. Stan Shepp |
