I sold all my stamps a couple of decades ago, but life has slowed down enough that I started re-building a new collection recently. The margins are not perfect, but I bought this Scott 17 recently because of the sharpness of the design (and it was priced right).  (EDIT: I deleted the prior post because I had the perforated version) |

Pretty sure I have this correctly plated as 1L5L, but just looking for one of the plating experts to confirm. Thanks in advance. Distinguishing plating characteristics: - Top row - Guide dot top right - Gash on shoulder - RFL gets very close to inner frame line just below the upper right rosette. - BFL gets very close to lower label block just below the TH in THREE.  |

I have one comparable to this but have long wondered how I can know that it is not a perforated stamp trimmed close, maybe because of perf issues? Is it just a matter of margin size?

@wyostamp... Scott 36, the perforated version of the Scott 17 design, has almost no margin past the perforations, especially the top and bottom. Here is my perforated 36 for comparison. As you can see, not much room for perforation cutting.  |

Thanks, that makes me breathe a little easier -- although when I got back to look at my stamp (scan coming tomorrow) I realized maybe it's still a little too close to be sure. |

So ... on revisiting the stamp I mentioned earlier, I see that it's not exactly "comparable" (my original word) to that pictured OP in terms of margins. But I presume still definitely a 17?  |
